The Uniforms and Insignia of The Regiment 1959–1994
INTRODUCTION
In general, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment followed Army Dress Regulations fairly precisely and, wherever it served, the 1st Battalion achieved and maintained a particular reputation for uniformity and smartness throughout the life of the regiment. As with any infantry regiment, it maintained its own regimental insignia and some individual dress distinctions. Necessarily, this appendix addresses only the salient points of the subject.
Consequently, it is intended to be a basic reference, which conveys to the reader an accurate overall impression of the non-specialist uniforms and equipment routinely and actually worn by members of the regiment between 1959 and 1994, and by the members of its 1st Battalion in particular.
Specifically, it seeks to highlight those variations from the norm and to answer authoritatively the questions “who wore what, and when?”
