he Bn, represented by mostly A Coy, OIC Major Paul Bradley, did a Freedom March through Wallingford on Wednesday 7th September 1977. The CO, Lt Col Jones, was there too. The thing I remember about it especially is that as we marched into the town square to be inspected, speeches etc, the Regimental Band played NOT 'The Farmer's Boy' nor 'The Vly' or 'The Dashing White Sergeant' but played 'The Luftwaffe March' from The Battle of Britain film. Beautifully played but it struck me as perhaps not the most appropriate march they could have played. There may well have been a good reason for this but I don't remember being told. Hopefully the photo I have (all official photos taken by Cpl Noddy Martin) will appear. It shows us formed up in Wallingford town square with Maj Bradley escorting the Mayor and speaking to Lt David Irving. The other officer in the far distance is Lt Richard Howman. Quite a few blurry faces but the owners may well recognise themselves. (Curtesy of Andrew Crocker) {rscomments option="com_rsmediagallery" id="1100"}
